student assistant bursaries

Similarly to the bursary scheme of the DH2010 in London, and in the spirit of our conference theme, we are offering student assistant bursaries. These bursaries will enable up to 12 international students to participate in the DH2012 at the University of Hamburg. You can download the Call for Applications. The deadline for submitting your application is March 15, 2012. Successful applicants will be required to support the running of the conference each day, but will otherwise be free to participate free of charge in all conference sessions and receptions. Each international student assistant will form a team with a local Hamburg student.

Making your plans for summer? DH “youngsters”, please keep the following dates in mind (in addition to the DH2012, of course!): The Digital Humanities Summer Institute at the University of Victoria in British Columbia/Canada will take place from the 4th to the 8th of June 2012. The European Summer School “Culture & Technology“ at the University of Leipzig/Germany will take place from the 23rd to the 31st of July 2012 – following the conference in Hamburg.

To everybody who is desperately waiting for news about the DH programme, please note this official announcement: Due to the high volume of submissions this year, the DH2012 Programme Committee has had to postpone the notification of acceptance for long papers, short papers, panels and posters.
We aim to let people know the outcome of their submissions at the earliest opportunity and thank everyone for their patience.

Our former twitter hashtag #dh12 has been hijacked by sporting enthusiasts, relating to the nickname of the NBA basketball player Dwight Howard. To avoid any competition with this huge guy and his fan crowd, we call a strategic hashtag withdrawal. So, Digital Humanities Folk: We are de-camping from #dh12 to #dh2012!

conference bursary awards

The Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) makes bursary awards to students and young scholars who have submissions accepted for presentation at the Digital Humanities 2012 conference. These awards are to encourage new contributions to scholarship in the digital humanities and to involve new participants in the application of information technology in humanities research.

Both paper and poster submissions qualify for consideration. The recipients receive a cash award of 500 GBP to help defray expenses incurred in attending the conference such as the conference registration, airline/train fare, lodging, and meals paid by the recipient. Certificates are presented at the Conference Banquet, which winners are invited to attend free of charge, as guests of ADHO.

dhd founding ‘unconference’

The VolkswagenStiftung has granted generous financial support for the inaugural “unconference” aimed at establishing a German regional association “Digital Humanities Deutschland”. This founding meeting will be held at the University of Hamburg on 17 July 2012 in conjunction with the DH 2012 and will conclude immediately prior to its opening.

hotels in the heart of hamburg

Call us optimistic early-birds but we have blocked a large contingent of reservations for conference members at several hotels nearby the campus. An online booking form will be available soon, for more information, click here. The university campus is situated right in the heart of Hamburg.

You can not only reach the conference venue from the hotels within walking distance, but you can also easily get to the Hamburg inner city shopping area, the Planten un Blomen park and gardens, and the Alster Lake as well as cultural attractions such as the Thalia theatre or the Kunsthalle Art Gallery. The nearby Hamburg Dammtor connects you to long-distance trains as well as the Hamburg Public Transport Network through its “S-Bahn” lines (suburban train) and bus services – thus making it a perfect starting point to explore the city.
