Online registration for DH2012 is open! You can now register for a stimulating and exciting DH event – in addition to 200 academic papers, workshops and posters the DH 2012 offers three receptions, a conference banquet aboard a historical sailing ship and exciting tours through Hamburg and to Lübeck. The early bird rate for members is € 220, for student members € 50.

The early bird rate will be valid until 31 May. Information about conference hotels and the budget accommodation can be found here.

The pre-conference workshops and tutorials will take place on Monday, July 16 and Tuesday, July 17. The main DH2012 conference will be officially opened on Tuesday evening, sessions will be held from July 18 – July 20. See here the programme for more details.

We’re happy to announce that the preliminary conference schedule and programme overview for the upcoming DH 2012 at Hamburg University are now available! From 16 to 20 July a total of 198 workshops, panels, papers and poster presentations have been scheduled – it’s truly bound to be a conference that lives up to its motto, “Digital Diversity – Cultures, Languages, Methods”! Registration for the conference and social events will open next week and will be announced separately. Abstracts for all scheduled events and papers will become available by May. The registration for DH 2012 will be opened soon – it’s time to start planning your trip to Hamburg! In order to simplify matters, we now provide detailed information about budget accommodation for you, ranging from backpacker hostels to young design hotels and short-term led apartments. student assistant bursaries – new deadline

Similarly to the bursary scheme of the DH2010 in London, and in the spirit of our conference theme, we are offering student assistant bursaries. These bursaries will enable up to 12 international students to participate in the DH2012 at the University of Hamburg. Attention, please: In response to the large number of requests from the community, we have decided to postpone the deadline for submitting the applications to March 25, 2012. You find further details here.Successful applicants will be required to support the running of the conference each day, but will otherwise be free to participate free of charge in all conference sessions and receptions. Each international student assistant will form a team with a local Hamburg student.

Our Call for Papers for the DH2012 attracted a record number of submissions (393, to be precise), which is why we decided to expand to 5 strands this year. However, irrespective of the increased number of available ‘slots’ the programme committee, after detailed and careful deliberation of multiple reviews received for every of the 393 proposals, could in the end only accept a selection of contributions. Notifications for Long paper, Short paper, Panel and Poster submissions have now been sent out, congrats to all! You can book your accommodation for the conference via the online hotel booking form.In order to make your travel plans, you may have a look at the preliminary conference programme which is still subject to changes.

Please see here more information about the hotel reservation sequence:
1. Please make your booking via the online booking form.
2. A status mail is sent to your e-mail address promptly, with the indication of your ID-No.
3. Within a few days you get a request of payment and a special form that is necessary in case of a payment at the hotel reception.
4. Within five days you should transfer the mentioned amount to the account of Universität Hamburg Marketing GmbH. Otherwise you may choose to pay at the hotel reception. In this case please fill in the dedicated form you have received in step 3 and fax it to Universität Hamburg Marketing GmbH.

We would like to encourage especially young academics to participate in the DH2012. In the spirit of the conference theme „Digital Diversity: Cultures, languages and methods“ we hope to welcome students from all over the world. There are two award schemes to gain financial support: If your submission for DH2012 was accepted, you can apply for the ADHO bursary award. If you have not submitted a paper or were unlucky and not selected, you still have the opportunity to get a student assistant bursary award for DH2012. This bursary is in exchange for a little help during the conference.

Making your plans for summer? DH “youngsters”, please keep the following dates in mind (in addition to the DH2012, of course!): The Digital Humanities Summer Institute at the University of Victoria in British Columbia/Canada will take place from the 4th to the 8th of June 2012. The European Summer School “Culture & Technology“ at the University of Leipzig/Germany will take place from the 23rd to the 31st of July 2012 – following the conference in Hamburg.

ADHO conference bursary awards

The Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO) makes bursary awards to students and young scholars who have submissions accepted for presentation at the Digital Humanities 2012 conference. These awards are to encourage new contributions to scholarship in the digital humanities and to involve new participants in the application of information technology in humanities research.

Paper, poster and panel submissions qualify for consideration. The recipients receive an award of 500 GBP to help defray expenses incurred in attending the conference such as the conference registration, airline/train fare, lodging, and meals paid by the recipient. Certificates are presented at the Conference Banquet, which winners are invited to attend free of charge, as guests of ADHO.

dhd founding ‘unconference’

The VolkswagenStiftung has granted generous financial support for the inaugural “unconference” aimed at establishing a German regional association “Digital Humanities Deutschland”. This founding meeting will be held at the University of Hamburg on 17 July 2012 in conjunction with the DH 2012 and will conclude immediately prior to its opening.
