Beatles Tour in St. Pauli: Friday evening, July 20
A musical tour about the legendary mop-tops, who started their world career in the early Sixties from the clubs in the Große Freiheit. Right in the middle of a vibrant scene in the notorious red-light district of St. Pauli with its milieu of prostitutes, sailors and boxers and inspired by an intellectual clique of Existentialists the young Beatles became grown-ups, as John Lennon put it.
The tour takes you to all the major Beatles-related sites between Feldstraße and Reeperbahn and presents you the early Beatles songs live! The tour ends with a short live concert.
Duration of the tour: approx. 2 1/2 hours.
Hafencity/Harbour Cruise: Saturday, July 21
T
he tour starts with a guided walk through the Hafencity, the new district located between the old warehouses of the Speicherstadt and the river Elbe. The Hafencity is the biggest inner-city urban planning project throughout Europe and is located on former port territory. Flats for around 12.000 people and office space for up to 40.000 people have been constructed in the past years or are currently under construction. Moreover, a Science Centre, a concert hall and a cruise centre, all with spectacular architecture are in the works. The concert hall, the so-called ‘Elbphilharmonie’, is especially worthwhile to visit.
After the walk you will explore the area by boat. Hamburg’s port is one of the largest in the world and is located directly opposite the city centre. During the two-hour boat trip you will see the whole of the harbour and its historical development: the old docks, the 19th century storehouse-district ‘Speicherstadt’and the ‘Hafencity’. Furthermore, the tour will pass through modern container terminals, big shipyards and the northern banks of the Elbe, where industrial wastelands have recently been turned into fashionable offices, shops and restaurants.
